Admissions Process

Applying for admission to UNM has never been easier--the application takes just minutes to complete, and once we have your application materials (see "Required Items" below), we'll get you a decision FAST!

Apply for admission as a freshman if:

• You have never attended college; or
• You are a graduating high school student with college credit earned through a dual enrollment program (regardless of the number of college credits earned); or
• You have completed less than 24 college credit hours since graduating from high school or earning your GED.

Required Items

Admission applications are reviewed and decisions returned as quickly as possible once your application is complete. A complete application includes:

1. Your submitted application.
2. Official high school transcripts (and college transcripts if applicable).
3. An application fee (or approved fee waiver).

Please note : Standardized scores are not required to be considered for admission but may be helpful in some cases.

That’s it! Essays, portfolios or recommendations are not necessary for admission to The University.

Additional Helpful Details

• Admission Term - Freshmen may begin in the Summer, Fall or Spring terms after high school graduation. While most students apply for admission to the fall term (courses begin in August), some admitted students will be required to begin during the summer after high school graduation.
• Application Form - Please submit either an online application or a hardcopy application form by the priority consideration date for the term to which you want to attend. We recommend the online application for faster response.
• Application Fee - $25 nonrefundable application fee or approved fee waiver. Approved fee waivers include waiver forms from the ACT & SAT testing services. Application fees are applicable for one year (four consecutive semesters). If you wish to postpone enrollment to a subsequent semester, please contact the Admissions Office.
• Official Transcripts - Please have your school send your official transcript to the UNM Admissions Office directly. If you have completed college courses, please have each college send official transcripts as well. Admission is provisional until the Admissions Office receives a complete, final and official transcript verifying graduation or completion. Transcripts must be in a sealed envelope from the issuing college / school, or transmitted through an accepted provider.
• Standardized Test Scores - Scores from ACT, SAT, CLT and others are not required to be considered for admission but may be helpful in some cases. If you choose to provide scores, they should be sent from the testing service, however scores reported on the high school transcript will be accepted. Be sure to designate UNM as one of the schools to which scores should be sent when you take the test. UNM’s ACT Code is 2650; UNM’s SAT Code is 4845.
• Reconsideration - Applicants not offered admission may request reconsideration of their application with new or additional information. Updated or more recent transcripts, new or additional test scores, recommendations, written statements from the applicant or other considerations should be included with the applicant’s request for reconsideration.
